Content Incentives
« on: October 17, 2015, 02:08:36 AM »
As a Warriors discussion forum, we need content in our Warriors-related boards. The majority of us spend our times in the Random Babble, leaving very sparse talk of Warrior Cats itself. In order for more content to be generated, I've devised a system of reward.

For every topic you create, up to ten topics, you will receive 100 prey points. Once you exceed ten topics, your rewards will switch to feathers instead. There will be new content-contributor feathers added, and your Clan has a chance to win extra points for contributions to the Warriors discussions.

The requirements for getting paid for your thread are simple. You must write at least 80 words, and you the content within the thread must be discuss-able. That means you can't just go around making tiny threads with no meaning to them. If you write more than 80 words, you will be considered for a bonus.

Additionally, posting at least twenty meaningful replies to discussion threads will get you a special feather and your choice of an ultra-rare TCG card along with a bonus of 250PP.

If you do any of the above, please message Darkstar for your reward.

Thank you!

I love this idea!

Can we count previous posts towards this? Or do they have to be new?

I like this idea. It should hopefully bring some love to the Warriors discussion boards.  I can't wait for it to become active again. .o.

Is this retroactive? Like, if we've already posted at least twenty meaningful replies, would be able to claim the reward for that? Or is this only for stuff posted from this point on forward?

I think it would be fair for everyone if it wasn't retroactive. Given that users like me have already posted in the Warriors boards multiple times, have started various topics, replied a lot, it wouldn't be right for some to be at more of an advantage than others. Although, that's what I think. If the modmins have a different idea in mind, I'm not aware of it.

This is not retroactive, unfortunately. All the discussion topics and posts must be new in order for it to be fair to everyone who wants to get involved! I look forward to seeing the new posts though.

I can understand that seeming unfair, but at the same time, if it's not retroactive isn't that a little unfair to the people who were already contributing before this? like... members who have already been participating might have already posted a lot of their thoughts and now have next to nothing to talk about so they're barely going to get anything out of this, whereas people who weren't participating before have whole boards of new threads to post in, so they're going to get rewarded for doing the exact same thing but putting it off. I don't really see how having a backlog of posts is much of an "advantage," anyone who wasn't posting still has the option to participate now and get the same rewards, so making it retroactive isn't leaving anyone out

idk, it's up to the mods but it just seems a bit odd to me to say that we're going to value content we start generating now, but ignore all the content that was generated before it was worth prizes...

The reward is for generating new, ongoing content, which is why the past content doesn't count. We need more things added to make the discussion boards more lively. The very point of content incentives is to provide continuous discussion in the Warriors boards to make it easier for newcomers to join in on it.

I hope that explains it a bit better.

I like this idea a lot. Perhaps we can compensate some of the people who have been actively posting quite a lot in the discussion boards? Just a small reward, nothing huge, because they have been actively posting. I think it would be a rad idea so everyone feels better.

Like, if they've posted x amount of topics or replies already they can claim them for a little prize?

thank you, secret santa!! :D

I think that giving people the Content Contributor feather for their previous posts might suffice.

This whole thing is about getting new posts, though. That's why I find it odd that people are going on about the previous posts and threads. The point is to get people involved in the Warriors discussion again.

What about for those that already have the Content Contributor feather? I realize there's only five of us, but perhaps just a small PP prize would suffice instead, that way we can benefit from it too? Like, it doesn't even need to be a lot? Maybe just a small 150PP prize?

The people who already have the feather were given it for something they've done that really didn't have much to do with the Warriors boards themselves in terms of discussion. Dawnwing for the massive amount of work she does with updates, information, ect; Altias for their lovely artistic contributions to the site; moss for the shipping information, I believe. Squirrelypaws has the suffix and prefix threads, and then I have the updates thread.

Although given that aren't any clear-cut requirements for that feather, I could be wrong...

I think the problem here is the fact that this would just leave people in the dust who were actually participating in Warriors discussion. It's nice to encourage people to go back and talk about the books, but why should they be rewarded for neglecting one of the core pieces of the site, while people who had actually been posting get ignored?
other than that, the people who were active in discussions are now at a disadvantage because they've already posted on most of the threads in the Warriors boards. people who never said a word have the whole thing to make money off.

if we're going to reward people for posting in the Warriors boards, ethically it would be best to reward everyone, not just the people who are doing it now that there's a $$$ reward for it.

If you see fit to give previous people rewards, go for it. This is specifically for new content generation, but if you want to separately make retroactive rewards, it's your call.

sunneth p much beat me to it but since I already wrote this anyway

I see the point, and I like the idea of incentives (on v4 discussion posts were worth more pp than rb posts too and I think that's how it should be), all I'm contesting is the idea that it's "only fair" to not count the old posts as if that gives everyone a blank slate. someone who's never participated can post 20 times and get a prize while someone who's already participated a lot has to find 20 new things to say, which could mean twice the overall participation for the same prize, simply because they posted early. it might generate new discussions, yeah, but it also might mean former contributors watching other people get rewarded just for doing the things they did before there was a bribe

but I agree that the feather would suffice (with a possible alternative for the people who would be double-earning it, if that becomes a problem). it's not asking for people who have already contributed to get special treatment, it's just asking for the same (or even less) compensation and acknowledgement, whether it's reduced pp awards or counting some old posts toward the total. I just feel like it's kind of silly to say that things posted today deserve rewards but things posted two days ago deserve nothing when they're both equal contributions
