Moving to Updates 'cause it fits there better.

Updates / PoS Browse - ENTIRE BOOK
« on: August 13, 2015, 08:09:49 PM »
The Browse Inside for Path of Stars is out.
But it looks like whoever uploaded it goofed: the entire book is still up and visible as of my making this thread.  That's right, the entire book, two and a half weeks before the release date. (Proof in case it gets removed - and I don't want to get in trouble for posting actual text of it, considering that it says "Copyrighted Material" on each page - the last word of the book is "grounds".)

EDIT: It's no longer up at that link, but the URL used in the source of the "embed sampler" feature on HC's page is still up:

EDIT2: It's been fixed: only the actual preview is available now.

Updates / Goosefeather's Curse / Path of Stars iBooks Samples!
« on: August 11, 2015, 10:28:27 PM »
The iBooks sample for DOTC #6: Path of Stars has been around for a week or two already, but the Goosefeather's Curse one was released today.

Go take a look if you haven't already!

I haven't even read the GC one yet, but it's neat just looking at the Allegiances and seeing Pinestar's warrior name, and some of the earlier leaders and medicine cats of the Clans.
Not a big fan of a lot of names in it though, especially the fact that they re-used several just from a quick glance.

Suggestions and Questions / Spambots in the advertising board
« on: July 28, 2015, 09:09:03 PM »
Hi there, just wanted to know if it's possible to take any further anti-spambot measures for the advertising board, perhaps a captcha if one doesn't exist, or a Warriors trivia question, to try and avoid some of those bots that have been attempting to post spam in the subforum.

I've deleted some, but they keep trying it and those "Posts waiting approval" emails five times a day are driving me up the wall, lol.  I don't mind getting them if it's a legit post, just not for bots.

Random Babble / The "what happened to you today" thread
« on: July 27, 2015, 12:55:07 AM »
We've got a thread like this on another forum I'm on and it's pretty popular.
This is a thread where you can just talk about all the things you did today, or a particular thing that's real interesting.

So I'll start.  Here's two interesting things that happened me today:

- I managed to lock myself out of my running car at the library.
I was turning in some stuff at the after-hours deposit and just left it running 'cause it would take all of ten seconds, and on my way out, locked it out of habit. I did happen to put my clicker in my pocket - another habit, which I do whenever I leave my keys in the car just in case I, y'know, lock myself out - but when I tried to unlock it I discovered that it does not work while the car is running. I ended up having to get my spare key out of a magnetic box on the underside of the car, hidden just for situations like that.

- I also realized belatedly (because my phone was off and I didn't check my voicemails till midnight) that I'd won a basket from the basket raffle at the church picnic I went to.
It comes with like a serving tray and napkin holders or something like that, two bottles of wine, and a gift certificate to a spa (which I'm excited about - never been to one). (Possibly a restaurant gift card too, not sure about that, but I'm quite happy even without that. It's worth far more than I spent on tickets.)

Random Babble / The Youtube/Good Videos Thread
« on: July 23, 2015, 01:44:08 AM »
So, we already have a Weird Part of Youtube thread, for the really weird and/or creepy stuff you've seen on Youtube.

This thread is for the random good or funny stuff you come across, or perhaps favorite videos in general.

So, I'll start: This is one of my recent favorites.  I love how excited the dancing bird is, and the reaction of the one on the left.  You just can't stage something like this.

Suggestions and Questions / "Prey Hunt" in the shop
« on: July 12, 2015, 04:27:54 AM »
Hi there, this is a suggestion to tweak the "prey hunt" possible winnings a bit.  I realized that it's overall not really even worth trying to do it at the amount it's set at, especially after having to pay 50 already - at the very best you'll only come out 50 prey points ahead (if you win 100, because you already spent 50.  And even if you win 50 you just break even.)  So you have a 3/4 chance of losing prey points and the win isn't that big.

I think the price for it is not bad (maybe could go a bit cheaper if anything since you don't get as many points now from posting) but the possible winnings should maybe be tweaked to 200, assuming that the tickets remain at 50 apiece, then you have a chance of coming out 150 ahead (pay 50 + win 200) or 150 behind (pay 50 + lose 100).

The Books / The Mistakes Thread
« on: July 11, 2015, 06:57:09 AM »
~ The Mistakes Thread ~

As we all know, there are lots and lots of mistakes in the books.  So here's a spot to list them all!
(As always, please give credit to Dawnwing and Warrior's Wish, preferably with a link, if using this elsewhere.)

Please share any that are not on here.

Cats Using Human Words (which they'd usually use their own vocabulary for)

Errors on the Book Covers
Note that I am excluding the cats that we aren't positive of - the ones that haven't been positively set in concrete of their identity. (Ex. Cats of the Clans.)

Cats missing from the Allegiances

Names used multiple times
(Aside from kit, apprentice, and leader names, because those are far more common and it's possible they had different warrior names.)

Dawn of the Clans Era

The Sun Trail

- In the prologue, Lion's Roar calls Half Moon by her original name rather than "Stoneteller", saying that she'd always be Half Moon to him.  Since he was just born when she was renamed Stoneteller, he should know her as that instead of Half Moon.
Pg. 24 "Thanks, Stone Hare," Quiet Rain murmured. (Should be Snow Hare)

The First Battle

The Blazing Star

A Forest Divided

Moth Flight's Vision

- On pg. 440, Gray Wing tells Moth Flight, "We can't save this life" and that "We can only give her our gift".  Wind Runner then proceeds to be given lives by eight cats instead of the usual nine. On page 450, Wind Runner says, "They gave me this life back, and eight more lives to lead WindClan through endless moons."
Pg. 460 "Clear Sky and Star Flower are thrilled to be taking Honey Pelt." (He has already received his leader name)

Taking Place During or Roughly Between Series 1 & 2

Tigerstar and Sasha: Into the Woods

- They frequently say that Firestar is leader of ThunderClan, but it takes place even before the dog attack.

Tigerstar and Sasha: Escape from the Forest

- In Erin's Message it says, "Come, it's time to find out what happened when Sasha stumbled away fom ShadowClan with her heart broken into pieces..."

Tigerstar and Sasha: Return to the Clans

- Shnuky was female in Into the Woods, but now is male in Return to the Clans.
- Sasha decides not to go to a Gathering for fear that someone will recognize her.  However, in Midnight, Graystripe said that he met her at a Gathering.

Firestar's Quest

(click to show/hide)

SkyClan's Destiny

(click to show/hide)

Ravenpaw's Path: Shattered Peace

- On pg. 81, Ravenpaw says that his first time to the Moonstone was with Sandpaw and Dustpaw.  In Into the Wild he had gone with Firepaw and Graypaw; Sandpaw and Dustpaw had not been there yet and were jealous.

Ravenpaw's Path: The Heart of a Warrior

- Deadfoot presumably died in The Darkest Hour, and he was definitely gone by Firestar's Quest.  This manga takes place after Firestar's Quest, so Deadfoot should not be on a patrol.
- Brambleclaw was made a warrior close to the start of Firestar's Quest.  This takes place after that book, but he's still an apprentice.

SkyClan's Destiny: The Rescue

- On page 56, they say that Shrewtooth is the cat bringing wool.  This cat is very light to be Shrewtooth.  It could be that it's just a light frame, but that seems unlikely when you compare it to Shrewtooth's other appearances and see just how dark he is there, so it's possible they mean Sharpclaw.

SkyClan's Destiny: Beyond the Code

Pg. 55 "I'm not sure Cinder really wanted to have kits." (Should be Cinders)
- On page 10 and 35, it shows Leafstar talking to a cat she calls Clovertail.  However, this cat is actually Echosong - same pelt, same face and tabby markings.  Clovertail had a solid-colored pelt with a white muzzle, legs, and belly, as can be seen on pg. 10 of The Rescue. Clovertail still looks that way in Beyond the Code - she appears on pg. 26 - but just isn't mentioned by name.

Updates / Some high-quality full-cover images
« on: July 11, 2015, 05:26:05 AM »
I shared this in the Skype group and I think everyone should see it if you weren't online at the time - I've got a handful of high-quality art that includes a lot of the full-cover images and also a handful of cover-center head pics and illustrations from Cats of the Clans (and I also threw in the three covers from the new illustrator that I found that don't have text on them).

These make great wallpapers and also would be great to use in graphics.  I hope to get these on the actual Ww site at some point, but in the meantime, follow this link, the password is "warriorswish", click "Download album" on the right, and then "Download' on the next page to download the whole folder.

I got most of these from back when they had the Trailer Contest on the official forum - there was an in-browser tool to create your own book trailer, and the tool had all the images and audio and so forth to use.  By digging through the page's source code I was able to find a .zip folder containing the data for all of those components.  The folder contained 374 xml files - each one contained a URL for a image/audio/transition/etc, so I had to open each one to see if it was an image one, and if so copy the URL and open it in a browser to see the image, and then save the image itself.
As you can imagine, it was quite a bit of work, but it provided us with these lovely, high-quality images!

Random Babble / Travel
« on: June 27, 2015, 11:03:31 PM »
Let's talk about traveling!
Where have you traveled to?  Where do you want to go?  Are you planning any vacations?

I'm currently planning a trip to Ireland for next May with a friend of mine - so far, the plan is this tour plus perhaps another week just traveling on our own.  Has anyone been there, and if so, any places you recommend seeing?   Any travel tips in general, i.e. tips for what to do at the airport? (I've only been on a plane once, in 2004 when I was 11, and I barely remember it - it wasn't a long flight either, just about 2 hours.)

The Books / TV Tropes Recap project
« on: June 27, 2015, 07:03:59 PM »
Hey guys, I'm sure most of you are aware of TV Tropes.  What you might not know is that it allows you to create "recap" pages for works to summarize it.  I started a Recap page for Warriors a couple years ago:

Lightflame and I have worked on summarizing some of the books, but as you can see, there's a lot to do.  If you're reading the books and notice that there's not a recap for one, feel free to lend a hand! :)

Updates / Ravenpaw's Farewell and Goosefeather's Curse covers
« on: June 27, 2015, 06:02:52 PM »
These just came out in basically the last few days, so here they are.  They're using the new artist for SEs and novellas now, it seems (I wonder if they will for series 6 too?), and they look great.
