Harry Potter!
« on: June 30, 2015, 03:13:34 AM »
Any other Harry Potter fans around? It's such a good book series, and I love the world J.K. Rowling has created. Who's excited about the new Harry Potter play coming out? "Harry Potter and the Curse Child" sounds like it's going to be fantastic. I'm curious what it'll be like, especially since it isn't a prequel. I hope it'll come over to the states at some point, because I really want to see it.

Obligatory "what house are you in"?

I'm in Hufflepuff. When I go to Hogwarts If I went to Hogwarts I think I'd want to surround myself with people that valued kindness and loyalty to better develop those qualities in myself. Though I'd totally join Ravenpuff if that was a thing, heh.

[SMASHES DOWN DOOR] YOU MENTIONED HARRY POTTER?

cough okay well hi. i really like harry potter. i'm so pumped for the play that's coming out and even though i'm halfway across the world ... bootlegs. bootlegs are going to  be a thing.

i'm a ravenclaw, even though the first time i took the pottermore test i turned out slytherin. i created a few new accounts and i got ravenclaw on all of them. which makes sense. i'm not ambitious or loyal or brave but i'm hella curious about things and really do value learning above everything else.

i've been to the wizarding world of harry potter which was the coolest place ever - not just the rides but you can WALK THROUGH HOGSMEADE and GO INTO HOGWARTS and DRINK BUTTERBEER the only thing is that the lineup for the forbidden journey is like 3 hours long. not even kidding. there are waits to get into the stores. but it's so cool 10/10 would go again

I love TWWoHP so much! They do such a good job making it like the books. Going to Ollivander's was my favorite, just because I felt like I was actually there about to get my first wand And butterbeer is actually the best. I really hope I get to go again this summer.

next time i go to florida i'm gonna try to go again. like, i went just before they announced the diagon alley expansion which was kinda disappointing haha. i don't think i actually went into ollivanders? we were there at christmas so perhaps it was just too crowded. and the butterbeer is so good, both the regular and frozen one. if i could replicate it at home, i'd drink it all the time.

HARRY POTTER YES!!

i got slytherin when i took the pottermore test, and while i tend to flip-flop between whether i personally think i'd be in slytherin or ravenclaw, i think slytherin is probably the most accurate. even as a little kid i loved slytherin best haha

i'm.... so jealous you've been to twwohp.... i've never been and i'm not sure when i'd ever have the opportunity to go, since i live in california and my family hates florida weather, but it's pretty much number one on my 'places i have to go the moment i can do so' list.

So... I read the entire series in a week, but bc of that, I was half asleep for most of it. I don't actually remember what happens in a lot of the books oops lmao
But i do really like them! The later books started to border on too long for me, but they're rly good

I haven't been to Harry potter in florida, but I went to Universal Japan, which had a harry potter place. It was pretty cool, but we couldn't stay long, so I didn't get to go to ollivanders. Upsetting

Oh man I want to go to TWWoHP so so so bad... if anybody wants to do a meetup i'd be super down
I had 2 pottermore accounts and I could swear that I answered the questions the exact same... but the first time I got Gryffindor and the second time I got Hufflepuff so I suppose technically I'm a gryffinpuff?

But personally I feel like I value loyalty and justice more than bravery so i just say that I'm a Hufflepuff.
Surprisingly my wand is exactly the same on both accounts though... 9.5 inch Rowan with Unicorn core, slightly springy

MARAUDER ERA ANYTHING IS MY LIFEbLOOD

Oh man do you guys remember the midnight release parties that bookstores would throw? I went to the final 3 of them, 2 times in costume it was great
I did a luna lovegood cosplay for Deathly Hallows and people would yell at me for being in character and staring off into space during pictures instead of smiling into the camera but ye I was super into it

I've... actually made my own wand out of oak in case that I ever get the chance to cosplay again, and hopefully I can buy or make a Hufflepuff uniform at some point x-x

I read Harry Potter a long time ago but it was also sort of in the middle of when i had an even worse problem than now of not absorbing information from what i read... I still liked hp though and the movies and stuff but I was never really a big hp kid like my siblings.

pottermore gave me slytherin but like.... pretty sure i'm not ACTUALLY a slytherin lol

Oh man, my parents were always kinda weird about going to midnight releases (didn't want us unable to focus at school, or something) so the first midnight release of anything that i ever went to was for the final harry potter movie. everyone was dressed up and it was absolutely fantastic, i cried for like half of the movie i loved it

i remember when the final book came out i power-read (aka skimmed) it in a single day and then went up to my friends and spoiled everything for them. why any of them are still friends with me baffles me to this day

DID YAPUT YA NAMINDEGOBLETOFFIYAH!?!?!

I love me some Harry Potter!

I signed up for a Pottermore account and the first time I took the house quiz I got Gyriffindor, but the second time I took it I got Ravenclaw. I stuck with Ravenclaw. I am not a brave person though I would like to be braver, it isn't something that I highly value. Hufflepuff is my second favorite house; it's almost a tie with Ravenclaw tbh.

I went to the midnight premiere for the last two movies. It was so much fun!

I've also been to the WWOHP in Orlando. That was really great. I think I rode Flight of the Hypogriff several times. The main ride I only got to ride once because the line was ridiculous - I think I waited about 3 hours (never doing a wait that long again). The way they built the land though was really amazing. I want to go back to see the Diagon Alley expansion. I went right after they opened it, but we stuck with Disney and I'm kinda glad we didn't go because we overheard other people that went saying that it was about 5-7 hour wait times for all the new stuff.

While I was there I did buy an official, overpriced Ravenclaw scarf. I'll admit that it looks pretty sweet and it's really, really, really long too. So that's a plus. If I remember and I'm not lazy I'll take a pic of it later.

oh man I actually got to go to Harry Potter World in Universal but my mom thinks HP is evil so we weren't allowed to actually look at anything except for when we went on the dragon roller coasters :(

my boyfriend's family has like season passes though and his sister went to this show where they gave her this really nice interactive wand thingy. I might have been jealous but I only ever read the first book when I was a kid though I know most plot details from having been on tumblr so much lol

I want to give them an actual read through. It's a goal, I will do it someday......

I grew up with Harry Potter and it's always been special to me.  I started hearing about it a lot right around the time the 3rd book was coming out - got so annoyed I didn't want to read it, actually - but then I got the first book for my 7th birthday and started reading it and fell in love.  And so I read the first three and had to wait for every book onward (never was allowed to do any midnight release - partly 'cause we lived a half hour away from town and I wasn't old enough to drive yet - and my parents wouldn't let me buy the books till paperback. Which of course was pointless because my books were read so many times they literally fell apart and were taped together, until I bought hardback copies.  So anyway for #4 and #5 it was me being the first person to check it out at the school library in the fall.  #6 was the first I bought shortly after release, and on the same day I discovered that Warriors was starting a second series and bought Midnight and Half Blood Prince at the same time, and read both books within 24 hours.  #7 I got on the date and finished most of it by that evening.  I remember the feeling I had reading it and finishing it for the first time; I'll never forget what that was like.)

As far as House, I've associated myself with Ravenclaw for a long time due to that one official site back when the first movie or two was out.  Pottermore put me in Gryffindor, my second-favorite house, so I'm satisfied with that. (And that's what I've voted for.)

I'm kind of disappointed with the recent developments with the series and feel like the cow is being milked at this point. Rowling's using the series to make political statements. Pottermore changed from an awesome site to a Buzzfeed-esque listicle site: instead of focusing entirely on the books they're putting a pretty big emphasis on the movies now... oh, and the awesome scene-by-scene art?  Yeah, it was free on Pottermore before, but now (aside from occasionally seeing one random picture at a time scattered across the current site) you can only view it by buying the "enhanced ebooks".   The play thing I'm neutral on; the idea does have potential, and hopefully they'll do a traveling show sometime. (I'm just not much of a theater person in general; I'd prefer a continuation to be a book or a film).  And I'm not overly impressed by what we've seen of Fantastic Beasts so far - that and they keep shoving it down our throats (Pottermore, I'm looking at you again, no thanks, I'm not interested in hearing about "the coat that made Daniel Radcliffe jealous" or Colin Farrell walking into a room.  There's a reason I unfollowed you on Facebook!)   Don't get me wrong, despite my lack of enthusiasm about the current developments in the series, I still consider Harry Potter my all-time favorite series.

Anyone play the video games? I have the first three and Quidditch World Cup on PC, and used to have the Gameboy Color version of Chamber of Secrets.  They were so good, especially the PC version of Chamber of Secrets; that's my favorite.

I agree with a lot of what you said, Dawnwing. I haven't seen the trailer for the new movie, though, so I can't really comment on that.
I read the first book all the way back in first grade. I'd heard a lot about it because of the movie, so I decided to check it out, and I absolutely loved it. I read the first four books right away, and then the rest as they came out. I was a HUGE fan when I was younger, and I still love it.
I picked Ravenclaw as my house all the way back when I first read the first book, and Pottermore confirmed it.
I've been to the theme park, and it was super fun! They really put in a ton of work to make you feel like you're in the books/movies. It was super crowded because I went on Christmas, but I still had a blast. There wasn't quite as much Ravenclaw merch as compared to Gryffindor or Slytherin, but I did get a really nice Ravenclaw hoodie (it's so incredibly soft), and my mom got me a Ravenclaw shirt there for my birthday.
Regarding video games: THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS GAMEBOY COLOR GAME! That was the first "real" video game I owned, and I loved it. It's actually pretty good. I really need to find where I put it and play it again.
