Compendium of an Art Student

So yes, I've been advised that a single thread per user will do just fine.
So here is a first post. I will make no more threads after this, just add to this one :3c

in the meanwhile check these out they're sick
this thread, and this other thread

I love working in mixed media. It's freeing. If I want to mix textures I can
if I want to slap in literal receipts, I can do that :D
if I want to literally watercolour a paper, cover it in oil pastel, then add ink and scrape it away, I CAN DO THAT (I'll show y'all my endeavor with that soon, it was fun)

anyways my point is MIXED MEDIA FOREVER \o/

The Watercolour Scratchboard Experiment ("Oh Glory")

So this was a super fun thing to do... We'd made custom scratchboards in my AP class in high school before but like... I always argued with my teacher about whether this particular slightly different method would also work while I was doing the project...

(click to show/hide)

Regular Custom-Scratchboard goes like this:
  • use illustration board / a rigid drawing surface
  • ink line drawing
  • oil pastel to color in anywhere that you don't want ink
  • after covered in oil pastel, coat with baby powder
  • when covered with baby powder, apply india ink to the entire surface
  • let it dry
  • now you can carefully scratch away the top layer of ink, and it looks hella tight!

And so anyways the thing about straight up using oil pastels is that you can't really mix the "underpainting" of the piece... you're always left with the color of the stick that you applied first...

So I wondered... what if you used a different medium to draw the bottom with (say... colored pencils or... ~WATERCOLOUR~), and got a colorless oil pastel extender to color over that and then did everything else too?

So... I got experimental for a somewhat big project last semester in college
we got to roam around the environmental science building and look at the taxidermied things and draw from that

\o/ thank you!! The Killjoys Fanart was actually watercolor that I cropped out and made transparent in photoshop (although it's cut out like that irl too)

EMO TRINITY TAROT (hype!!)

okay so all i have so far of this project is a lot of hype, a very long list of what's gonna be what, and some sketches but hey y'all let's look at all this research and process (most of which is atrocious & haphazardly doodled just to get something down)

if you're unfamiliar the holy trinity of emo includes the bands Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, and My Chemical Romance (jokingly called the father, son, and holy spirit respectively lmao) So this will feature the band members through different eras, music videos, and really anything/anyone that might be related...

Trying to get more done in the coming weeks but I'm also starting classes on monday... but I really wanna do this it's fun :)

Doll-A-Day

this project requires one material to be made into a sculptural object every day, on a theme of your choosing... so I chose to make dolls because why not, right?
