Homework Help: Essays & Documents: Peer Editing
« on: November 17, 2015, 07:03:12 PM »
I mentioned it on the chat but I thought it might be helpful for all of us in school to help each other out with essays, documents and writing in general. Basically a peer review group thing. Feel free to submit the essays you're working on and those who want to edit can do so!

I actually want to make use of this thread now lmao
As most know, I'm an artist and I've been wanting to start taking commission for meat world currency. I've written out and heavily modified a Terms of Service for myself.
I was wondering if anyone would mind looking it over and seeing if the contract has clear, understandable wording? And if you think I missed any important information, I would appreciate another pair of eyes pointing it out so I add it in before I run into any problems down the road.

Just as a note, a TOS/etc. falls way outside the scope of a general language geek! If you expect the TOS to actually do what it's meant to do, I would strongly suggest getting some kind of legal advice (if you know any law students/lecturers and don't want to pay, maybe just ask for their 2 cents worth)

That said.... I'm a geek and I'll have a look at it anyway xD

That's a good point. It's supposed to be a legal contract. But so far, from what my research says, artists seem to have a hard time establishing solid legal contracts and protection. I'm not too sure how to go about it properly x/
I'll have to research legal advice for artist contracts for sure. But this one is modeled after various other artist's terms of service.
I appreciate you taking a look regardless!

Karen Carr gave us like 10 minutes on legal advice remind me to pull the phrase she said to put on all the proofs and contracts from my notebook sometime

she makes museum exhibits and says that the phrase has saved her from not being paid many a time

  • Be generous and graceful
  • Make mindful choices
  • GET PAID!!
  • don't giggle (sadface doodled here)

Depending on whether or not you're copyrighting anything consider "ownership" instead..... is this digital art or irl art?

This isn't a commercial contract so I'm not selling the copyrights of my work. I still maintain all legal copyright to the artwork and clients can't go off and sell prints of my work. It's digital artwork also!
Also someone at my drawing group pointed out the book I've dog-eared on Amazon called "Graphic Artist's Guild Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines"
I'm debating purchasing a copy. I looked over an older copy at my Half Price Books but most of what they cover is commercial contracts and what a free-lance graphic artist would use as far as working with companies and negotiating a commercial contract.
I would classify what I'm doing as non-commercial, personal commissions so I don't think it applies to my situation.
