Dawn- In Moonrise, Talon tells the traveling cats that he, Rock, and Bird were three of the cats chosen to attack Sharptooth (the other three had died.) In Dawn, a fourth outcast appears, Jagged Rock Where Heron Sits.
- Several Tribe cats in the Dawn allegiances do not appear in the books. Likewise, there were two cats in Moonrise that were in the books but not in the Dawn allegiances list: Scree Beneath Winter Sky and Mist Where Sunlight Shimmers.
- Rock and Bird, two of the outcasts, told their names in Moonrise: Rock Where Snow Gathers and Bird Who Rides The Wind. Their names changed in the Dawn Allegiances list: Rock Beneath Still Water and Bird That Sings At Dusk.
- Rock and Bird were described in Moonrise as a black tom and a gray-brown she-cat. In Dawn, they are a brown tom and a gray tabby she-cat.
- Up until Dawn, Rowanclaw was a she-cat; he became a tom in Dawn.
- Tumblekit and Willowkit are Dawnflower's kits in Dawn. In Twilight, Willowkit is Mosspelt's kit (Tumblekit is forgotten), and Dawnflower has other kits.
Pg. 28-29 Finally she saw a shape she had hoped to find, the tortoiseshell-splashed fur familiar even in the gloom. "Brightheart!" (Brightheart is white and ginger)
Pg. 54 At least they could explain everyhing to Graystripe away from the scrutiny of others.
Pg. 78 He looked strong and determined, but his dull black pelt... ("He" is Blackstar, and Blackstar has a white pelt with black paws)
Pg. 101 The two cats raced past the ravine without even looking down into the abandoned camp, and headed for the Great Sycamore. The monsters were still there, chewing up more and more of the forest. If they weren't careful, they'd tumble right into the ravine and smash themselves to bits on Highstones, Squirrelpaw thought hopefully. (If the monsters fall into the camp ravine, they'd smash themselves on the Highrock, not Highstones.)
Pg. 120 The thought pieced her heart like a thorn.
- On page 134, Leafpaw says that only she, Firestar, Cinderpelt, and Graystripe knew about the "fire and tiger" prophecy. However, Sandstorm knew as well in Midnight.
Pg. 137 Duspelt raised his voice that his deep meow rang around the rock.
Pg. 178 Looking around, Squirrelpaw realized that all the cats that had returned from the sun-drown-place were with her - Brambleclaw, Stormfur, Crowpaw, and Tawnypaw.
Pg. 179 "They stopped the other monsters from coming here just before they started destroying our part of the forest," Tawnypaw whispered to Squirrelpaw.
Pg. 191 A shaft of pale sunlight sliced into the clearing and lit up the ThunderClan's golden pelt.
- On page 246, Ravenpaw, Barley, and Firestar are discussing where the Clans can shelter. Then Ravenpaw mentions the broken Twoleg nest: "Where you sheltered with Bluestar after the rat attack." In Into the Wild they never sheltered there.
Pg. 254 "The dying warrior!' Squirrelpaw breathed. (There is supposed to be a quotation mark, not an apostrophe, when she is done speaking.)
Pg. 279 Fortunately Longtail was among the cats who had been ahead of the RiverClan apprentice. (The apprentice in question is Smokepaw, a ShadowClan apprentice.)
Pg. 292 "But we never though this journey would be this hard!"
Pg. 296 "This one will be dead by sundown if she doesn't get some shelter," Leafpaw called. She was rubbing Marshkit, watched closely by his mother, Tallpoppy.
- Smokepaw dies in Dawn, but comes back in the rest of TNP and even is a warrior in TPO3.
Starlight- The Greenleaf Twolegplace (the campsite) isn't labled in the Starlight cat-map.
- At the beginning, Mousefur is still a warrior with Spiderpaw as her apprentice, and only retires after he becomes a warrior. However, in the Allegiances, Mousefur is an elder already, and Spiderpaw is listed as Cloudtail's apprentice (even though he never was).
Pg. 7 "The journey has left us all tired and weak," Blackclaw of WindClan added.
Pg. 14 Whitetail blinked as if she couldn't quite believe him. (It's supposed to be Whitepaw of ThunderClan, not the WindClan she-cat.)
Pg. 30 Trust Blackclaw to think that other Clans were trying to steal an advantage... (They're talking about Blackstar, not the Riverclan warrior)
Pg. 71 ... and hardly looked up when Squirrelpaw dropped back to give him an affectionate nuzzle. (she's already a warrior)
Pg. 216 Brambleclaw crept forward and brought it down with a skilful blow that snapped its neck. (According to an online dictionary this is a British spelling - however, they always use the American spelling of words)
- The tabby kittypet in ShadowClan territory is called "he" several times from Starlight to Sunset, but Secrets of the Clans reveals that this cat is a she-cat named Susan.
Audio Version, CD 6, Track 3, 7:27: Though it is correct in the books, in the audio version Rainwhisker is called "Rainwater" at one point. ("The brambles here were really thorny," Cinderpelt explained. "Far too thick for shelter, so this morning I asked Rainwater and Sootfur to shift them.")
TwilightPg. 109 Bramblelclaw's words could have been approving, but his tone was...
Pg. 152 ...Shrewpaw, who had died on their journey to the lake... (He had died before they left)
Pg. 169 Leafpaw blinked warmly at her friend, grateful that Mothwing was generous enough to remind her.
Pg. 211 Leafpool remembered how he [Cloudtail] had shown infinite patience with Brightheart after the she-cat had been attacked by the dogs, and needed to learn a whole way of fighting and hunting. (She wouldn't remember that; she wasn't even born yet!)
Pg. 293 "If a badger stepped on me, I'd bite it!" Hazelkit boasted. "You won't get the chance," his mother mewed.
- Crowfeather is frequently described with amber eyes, when he really has blue.
- Mothwing is frequently described with blue eyes (including page 100), when she really has amber.
- Cloudtail is playing with Daisy's kits in a scene. "He'll be a fantastic mentor," Brightheart says, meaning that he hasn't been a mentor yet. However, he mentored Rainwhisker.
- "Horse place" has a space in it in Twilight, but no space (just "horseplace") in later books.
Audio version, CD 4, Track 3, 16:50 - Though it is correct in the books, there is one point when the word "he" is misread as "she". ("And did she drink it?" - Pebblekit is male.)
Sunset- Birchpaw was a gray cat as a kit, but in Sunset and later books he's brown.
- On page 316 of Twilight, the elders climb down from Highledge and are joined by Brambleclaw, Thornclaw, and Sandstorm. However, on page 15 of Sunset, Brambleclaw sees them climbing down again, and he talks to them, as well as Stormfur and Squirrelflight (instead of Thornclaw and Sandstorm.)
Pg. 13 Brightheart's eyes gleamed, and she seemed to shake off some of her own weariness as she followed Leafpool to the den.
- Crowfeather is supposed to have blue eyes, but he's mentioned with amber eyes on page 45-46.
Pg. 128 "At least tonight is the quarter moon, and I'll be meeting her at the Moonpool."
Pg. 131 Leafpool halted at the top of a swell of moorland and looked back to see the quarter moon shining over the distant lake.
Pg. 189 Another cat had come up by Smoky, gazing at the two forest cats with curious eyes. Her pelt was gray and white like Daisy's; Brambleclaw wondered whether they might be littermates. (She has gray and white fur like Smoky, her mate)
Pg. 265 "And two strong warriors will be all you need to guard the end of the tree-bridge," Tigerclaw added.
- Heavystep dies from greencough in Sunset, but comes back later in the books.
Taking Place During or Roughly Between Series 2 & 3
Graystripe's Adventure: The Lost Warrior- In this book they frequently say "Twolegs" when referring to only one Twoleg.
- In Sunset and The Sight, it is mentioned that StarClan are unable to see Graystripe. However, Silverstream and Feathertail can easily see him (in fact, they visit him!) in this book.
Graystripe's Adventure: Warrior's Return- At the end, when Graystripe and Millie come to the Gathering, the tree-bridge is shown as having its roots on the mainland. In Starlight, it originally fell from the island to the mainland, so they should be approaching its top, not its roots.
Power of Three
The Sight- In Sunset, Ripplepaw of RiverClan was a silver she-cat. In The Sight and beyond, Rippletail is a dark gray tom.
- Stonestream is already an elder, even though he just became a warrior in Twilight.
Pg. 8 "All the more reason for them to enjoy themselves now," Daisy replied. Jaypaw felt a wave of affection for the milky white she-cat.
Pg. 57 He had heard Daisy and Ferncloud talking about Hawkfrost, the RiverClan deputy who had died on ThunderClan territory, impaled on a wooden spike from a fox trap. (He was only deputy temporarily in Dawn, but was not still deputy when he died.)
- On page 58, it says "Dustpelt accused Stormfur of not being a real ThunderClan warrior." On page 55, it was Spiderleg who accused Stormfur of not being really ThunderClan.
- On page 58, it mentions that Lionpaw and Mousepaw were denmates in the nursery for a while. However, in After Sunset: We Need to Talk, Berrypaw (and therefore, Mousepaw) is already an apprentice. If Leafpool was going to tell Crowfeather that she was expecting his kits, that would make the quote from The Sight a mistake because Lionpaw wouldn't have been born. If she was going to tell him that she had his kits, it's possible that they could have been denmates for a couple of days.
Pg. 91 She stepped back from Jaypaw and lifted her chin. (He hasn't recieved his name yet.)
- On pg. 238, Sandstorm leaves on the dawn patrol along with Graystripe and Honeypaw. Hollypaw watches them go, speaks to Leafpool, and then goes to Firestar's den on page 240. Sandstorm is in Firestar's den, even though she is supposed to be out in the forest on the dawn patrol.
Pg. 276 Did that mean he couldn't tell her about Onestar's warning to Barkface? (Should be Tallstar instead of Onestar)
Pg. 325 Firestorm was grooming Sandstorm below Highledge.
- Pouncepaw is a she-cat in The Sight, but a tom in later books.
- After Jaypaw becomes Leafpool's apprentice, Firestar promises Brightheart that she will get either Foxpaw or Icepaw. However, he gave Foxpaw to Squirrelflight and Icepaw to Whitewing.
Dark River- In the excerpt of Dark River that appears at the back of The Sight, Mousepaw is called Mousefur twice.
- Sedgekit was a tom in Dark River.
- It claims that "The tip of [Berrypaw's] thick cream tail stirred the surface of the lake." Berrypaw no longer has a "thick cream tail" since he lost all but a stump in Sunset.
- When Cinderpaw falls from the Sky Oak and Hollypaw goes to get help, the cats still with her are Mousepaw, Spiderleg, Cloudtail, and Brackenfur. However, on page 101, when Leafpool asks who is with Cinderpaw, Hollypaw says "Mousepaw, Ashfur, Cloudtail, and Brackenfur".
Pg. 184 Hardly daring to breath, she pricked her ears, listening for an alarm call.
Pg. 263 Jaypaw felt Firestar's amber gaze warm his pelt.
Pg. 264 Brambleclaw and Dusltpelt were going to accompany them to the WindClan border and wait for their return.
Outcast- Ivytail was formerly described as brown, but she is a tortoiseshell in the Allegiances.
- They attempted to fix Bird's name; she is now Bird That Rides The Wind as opposed to Bird That Sings At Dusk or her original Bird Who Rides The Wind. They also changed her pelt back to gray-brown like it was in Moonrise, not gray tabby like in Dawn.
- Icewing had blue eyes in the Dark River Allegiances, but green in the Outcast allegiances.
- Pouncetail was originally a brown tabby, but now is ginger and white.
- Stormfur is frequently described with blue eyes, even though in the allegiances he has amber.
- Stoneteller is frequently described as gray, even though in the allegiances he is brown.
- In Dawn, Stoneteller tells Cinderpelt that they do not share dreams with their ancestors. But in Outcast, a member of the Tribe of Endless Hunting visits Stoneteller, and he was not surprised at all that he was being visited.
- Pg. 150 Jaypaw picked up Firestar's scent and heard his paw steps as he padded across the clearing to join the traveling cats." (They always use "pawsteps", not "paw steps"; the space was probably unintentional.)
Eclipse- In an early excerpt of Eclipse that appeared at the back of Outcast, for some reason Firestar was with the cats traveling back from the mountains, even though he hadn't gone there with them. This was corrected by the final version (for example, a line Firestar originally said was given to Tawnypelt instead.)
Pg. 105 "You don't have the weight to overpower every cat," Firestar told him. (Should be Tigerstar)
Pg. 105 Hawkfrost was already sitting in the needle-strewn hollow, his amber eyes glowing in the half-light.
Pg. 120 "Are you really treating her the same way you'd treat Poppypaw or Honeypaw?" (They received their warrior names already.)
Pg. 220 Green eyes flashed in front of him. "Where's Heatherpaw?" Crowfeather was blocking his path.
Pg. 231 Millie nodded. Briarkit was dangling wide-eyed under her chin. It isn't always like this, Hollypaw wanted to tell the tiny kit, not sure if he was old enough to understand.
Long ShadowsPg. 17 Hazeltail launched himself onto the apprentice, trying to thrust him away from Birchfall.
Pg. 124 "What are we going to do about our mother?" Dawnpaw asked her brother and sister.
Pg. 84 "Hey, I look like you, don't I?" Tigerpaw interrupted, stretching out a paw to compare his golden pelt with Lionblaze's.
Pg. 145 Brightspirit stretched out her neck and rested her muzzle against her ear, warming him with her breath. (Because it's Jayfeather's ear, it should be "his".)
Pg. 199 It was clear that the waiting had already driven Broken Shadows mad. (Should be Shadow)
Pg. 216 ... "he and the kits are going to end up like Crowfeather and Breezepelt." (Breezepaw isn't a warrior yet by the end of this book.)
- Blossomkit has a tortoiseshell pelt with white patches in Eclipse (hardcover pg. 158 of Eclipse); in fact, she was named because the white patches looked like fallen petals. However, in the Long Shadows Allegiances, she is listed as pale brown with a dark stripe along her spine.
- In the Eclipse Allegiances list, Sol is described as brown-and-tortoiseshell. In the Long Shadows Allegiances, he is listed as a brown-and-white tabby.
SunrisePg. 49 Ashfur flicked her ears toward a rough place... (it's supposed to be Ashfoot)
- On page 51, Hazeltail tells Smoky and Floss about how Berrynose lost his tail in a fox trap as a kit, and they're shocked and ask if he was badly hurt. However, in Sunset Berrykit's injury was roughly 80 pages before Daisy took her kits back to the barn, so they should already know about it.
Pg. 72 The wind hit Hollypaw in the face as soon as she left the shelter of the trees.
Pg. 203 ...a powerful tom with thick grey fur. (They have always used the US spelling of gray)
Pg. 225 ... and hard on their paws came Onestar and Turnear.
Pg. 288 ''Don't worry," he whispered. "Your daughters will be fine. They will be loved and protected by their Clanmates.'' (They aren't born yet, so how does he know they're both female?)
- In the scene where Spottedleaf visits Jayfeather, she is described with green eyes, when she's supposed to have amber.
- Minnowkit was black in Twilight, but she is gray-and-white in The Sight, and then just dark gray in Sunrise.
- Sneezekit is a tortoiseshell in Dark River, but gray-and-white starting in Sunrise.
- Dawnpaw was originally a gray she-cat, but is listed as "cream-furred" in Sunrise.
- In Eclipse, Sol was tortoiseshell-and-white, but in Long Shadows, he was tabby-and-white. He is still tabby-and-white in the Allegiances of Sunrise, but he is described as both tortoiseshell and as tabby in different places in the text.
Omen of the Stars
The Fourth Apprentice- Dapplenose and Pouncetail are already elders, even though they just became warriors during the Power of Three.
- Gorsetail is now a tom instead of the she-cat that gave birth to Sedgewhisker and her littermates.
- Blossompaw is a tortoiseshell again; she had been turned pale brown in Long Shadows and Sunrise.
Pg. 73 As Dovepaw spoke, the bracken at the other side of the clearing parted, and Dustpelt led his patrol into the open. Rosepetal, Foxtail, and Berrynose followed him; the cream-colored warrior was limping.
- Foxleap speaks on page 95-96. At the top of page 96, the second quotation mark is missing.
Pg. 192 He remembered how he had saved her [Poppyfrost's] life a long time ago, by guiding her back from StarClan when she was a tiny kit with greencough. (She was an apprentice)
Fading Echoes- Bumblepaw's warrior name is listed as Bumbleflight in the Allegiances, when it is really Bumblestripe.
- Pinepaw is female in the Allegiances and in The Fourth Apprentice, but male in the text of Fading Echoes (including page 93).
- Brokenstar shouldn't still have his leader name; Bluestar renamed him Brokentail.
- Brokenstar is described as black, when he is supposed to be a dark brown tabby.
- Yellowfang asks Jayfeather which Dark Forest cat attacked him at the Moonpool, even though she had told him "I know which cat it was" right after it happened in Fourth Apprentice.
Pg. 91 Thornclaw and Lionblaze squared up beside Lionblaze ...
- On page 177-178, Dovepaw remembers Briarlight struggling to get her own fresh-kill. It's fine that the narration refers to her as Briarlight, but the cats in the flashback should be calling her "Briarpaw", because it was before her ceremony.
Pg. 187 Dovepaw looked around the clearing. Blossompaw and Bumblestripe were padding into camp, carrying fresh prey. (She has already recieved her warrior name)
- On page 209, Jayfeather notes that he's never seen Hawkfrost in StarClan, so he's most likely in the Dark Forest. He should already know that Hawkfrost is there, since he saw him in the Dark Forest in The Sight.
Pg. 279 Blossompaw shuffled back into place. (She has already recieved her warrior name by this point.)
- On the last page of the book, when Lionblaze is thinking "Two deaths?", the word "deaths" is in a completely different font, though both are italic.
Audio version, chapter 10, 34:11 - One of Squirrelflight's lines is read in Jayfeather's voice. It is supposed to be Squirrelflight asking Jayfeather "Did you say that?" and Jayfeather shakes his head silently, and Squirrelflight says "I didn't think so" and continues speaking to Millie. In this audio version, it makes it sound as if Jayfeather's answering her with an unsure "I didn't think so". However, it definitely should be Squirrelflight saying that, because in the book it is in the same paragraph as the rest of Squirrelflight's lines.
Audio Version, chapter 24, 1:07 - Though it is correct in the book, Thornclaw is read as "Thunderclaw" once. ("On Thunderclaw's signal, ThunderClan warriors swooped like hawks from the branches.")
Night Whispers- Fernshade, in the prologue, leads Russetfur to StarClan, as it mentions she was Russetfur's mentor. However, in Yellowfang's Secret, Russetfur was a warrior before Fernshade was even born.
- Brokenstar is described as black, even though he's supposed to be a dark brown tabby.
Pg. 4 Mudfur, the old WindClan medicine cat, shook his head.
- On page 295 of Fading Echoes, Thornclaw says "The battle is won. The clearing is ours. Do you concede or shall we fight for it again?" Page 6 of Night Whispers claims that Brambleclaw was the one to say this.
Pg. 8 Hazeltail glanced at him with scorn in her eyes and pressed closer to Mousewhisker, lapping at her sister's bleeding, ruffled fur.
- Berrynose lost his tail in Sunset. However, it claims on page 42 that he brushed his tail along Dovepaw's flank. He would not be able to do this they way they meant with just a stump left.
Pg. 45 Ivypaw was bristling now, her green eyes wide. (Especially notable since they describe her with blue eyes just a few sentences later)
Pg. 49 "Bumblestripe found great clumps of web behind the ivy on the Great Oak." (Should be Sky Oak - the Great Oak's the one on the Island, for Gatherings.)
Pg. 103 "He was listening to Littlecloud, and Littlecloud is too close to his medicine-cat friends." (They never use a hyphen in "medicine cat")
Pg. 162 His shoulders dipped blow the surface as he struggled to find his paws, but...
Pg. 228 Applefur narrowed his eyes.
Sign of the Moon- The ancient cat Broken Shadow has her name correct in the Allegiances and in Long Shadows, but in the text of this book she is called Broken Shadows.
- One Tribe elder is listed as "Cloud With Star In Belly" in the Allegiances. In both the text of this book and in Outcast, she was Cloud With Storm In Belly.
- On pg. 135, Hawkfrost claims that Hollowpaw is new. Ivypaw acts as if she's never seen Hollowpaw before - Hawkfrosts introduces the apprentice, and Ivypaw asks if it's Hollowpaw's first time there. Hollowpaw says that it is his second. However, in Night Whispers, Hollowpaw and Ivypaw knew each other in the Dark Forest - they trained together and knocked down Darkstripe once - and he had already gone to the Dark Forest twice in that book (pg. 160 and pg. 228)
Pg. 135 "Troutstream is even more of a pain in the butt since he was made a warrior."
Pg. 258 "So the eagle let Jayfeather go, and flew off," Stone Song finished. (The Ancients know him only as Jay's Wing; they have not been told his Clan name, and nobody, not even Stone Song, found it strange that he was called Jayfeather)
The Forgotten Warrior- In the Allegiances, Troutstream and Rushtail are still listed as apprentices, even though they became warriors in the last book.
- In the Allegiances, Hollowpaw and Mossypaw of RiverClan are not listed as warriors, even though Pinenose, Starlingwing, and Ferretclaw of ShadowClan are, and they were announced as warriors at same Gathering.
- On pg. 5, it says that they returned from the Tribe a moon ago. On pg. 13, it says they returned barely half a moon ago.
Pg. 30-31 "Yeah, we'll get you then as well!" Furzepaw added, his paws tearing up the grass as he crouched for a pounce.
Pg. 117 Focused on what was happening outside the den, Jayfeather hadn't noticed Brightheart dragging herself up to him. (should be Briarlight)
Pg. 201 As she spoke, an image of Tigerheart popped into her head: the gleam of green eyes as he thrust his dark tabby head out of a clump of ferns. (Tigerheart has amber eyes)
- On pg. 279, it says, "Jayfeather opened his jaws to reply, but in the same heartbeat Firestar raised his tail and beckoned." Jayfeather is blind, so how does Firestar gesturing to him make him stop replying?
Pg. 308 Breezepelt was leading them, with Whiskernose, Weaselfoot, and Harespring. Heathertail and Furzepelt brought up the rear. (Should be Weaselfur instead of Weaselfoot, and Furzepaw is not yet a warrior as far as we know, since it was not announced at the Gathering)
The Last Hope- In the Allegiances, Cherrypaw and Molepaw are still listed as kits, and Whiskernose, Boulderfur, Furzepelt, Hollowflight, Troutstream, Mossyfoot, and Rushtail are still listed as apprentices. Antpelt is still listed even though he died.
- In the Allegiances, the word "ShadowClan" is in a rather large font compared to the other Clans' names.
- In the Kindle edition only, Tawnypelt is listed in the Allegiances as "Tawnypeut".
- Half Moon is described at least once as "smoke-gray", when she's really white.
- Dapplenose died from the drought in The Fourth Apprentice. She appears at a Gathering in this book.
Pg. 2 Half Moon's amber gaze flicked toward two figures clambering over the rocks toward them. (Half Moon has green eyes)
Pg. 56 Rosepetal and Foxtail followed, Berrynose bounding after.
Pg. 59 Ivypool glanced at the brown-and-white apprentice. (Molepaw is brown and cream)
Pg. 66 "Any sign of them?" Sunstrike murmured to his Clanmates.
Pg. 73 Mintfur murmured to her Clanmate. "I think Mistystar should decide."
Pg. 77 Reedfeather stepped forward. (should be Reedwhisker)
Pg. 78 "If you want to come back, bring a patrol and be prepared to fight!" Hollowflight growled after him. Lashing his tail, Jayfeather marched away from her.
Pg. 103 Dovewing stared at the entrance. The thorns still trembling where Tigerheart had slid through. (Should be "the thorns still were trembling" or "the thorns still trembled".)
Pg. 107 The forest blurred around her as she ran, the earth thrumming beneath her paws. Tigerstar's pelt flashed between the trees a few tail-lengths ahead. (should be Tigerheart)
Pg. 115 Sparrowfeather flexed his claws.
- On pg. 122, it claims that the last time Rock appeared, it had been to tell him to let Flametail drown. He actually had appeared in Sign of the Moon when Jayfeather was time-traveling.
- Raggedstar is consistently called Raggedpelt; for example, page 178.
Pg. 179 The bushes behind Russetfur shivered and Cedarheart stepped onto the trail. "Let them pass." (should be Cedarstar, as Cedarheart is a living elder.)
- On page 214, Mosskit is male, while the authors have said she is female and Mosskit is mentioned as female at other points in this book.
Pg. 223 "So you can never be defeated, eh?" He stopped and stared at the golden warrior. "Rowanclaw told me he shredded you." (it was Ratscar that fought Lionblaze, not Rowanclaw)
- On pg. 236, Firestar claims he told Ivypool to spy. He actually didn't, but he could have been just telling his Clan that to reassure them.
Pg. 260 Where's Ivypool? There was no sign of her sister's black pelt.
Pg. 274 He crossed to the warriors facing the DarkClan cats.
Pg. 319 She sprang toward the gray tom. (the "gray tom" is Hawkfrost, who is actually a brown tabby)
- Ratscar on page 319 seems shocked to see Dark Forest warriors, exclaiming that he's seeing cats that he thought were dead. On the next few pages, it's revealed that he was a DF warrior. He could have been lying, but he didn't seem to be acting for anyone, just saying it to himself.
Taking Place Between OOTS & AVOS
Bramblestar's StormPg. 14 His Clanmates Leaftail and Nightcloud sprang forward, hissing with fury, and trapped Rosepetal between them. Nightpelt lashed out, clawing at Rosepetal's ear.
Pg. 54 Blackstar looked up at the WindClan leader; Bramblestar could see shock and horror in his eyes. (Should be RiverClan; the leader in question is Mistystar: she'd just said that they should honor the dead in their own way and not list their names at every Gathering like Blackstar wanted.)
Pg. 107 "Wow!" Snowpaw squeaked, tipping back her head to follow the path up the cliff. "How did Leafpool know about this?" Brightheart gave her daughter a flick around the ear. "Medicine cats know a lot of things," she mewed.
- On page 228, Frankie claims that his brother Benny is also a tabby, but darker. On page 561, Benny is black-and-white.
Pg. 452 "I'll never forget Silverstream or Stonefur," he [Graystripe] went on, "and I can scarcely believe that my daughter Mistystar is now leader of RiverClan". (It's possible that he meant his son Stormfur instead of his mentor Stonefur, but the infamous part of this line is his claim that Mistystar is his daughter - she is Bluestar's daughter and is, in fact, considerably older than Graystripe. Vicky couldn't believe she'd made such an egregious error and this was corrected in all editions after the first printing: the line was changed to "I have lost so many cats who were precious to me," he went on, "and not a day goes by when I don't think of Silverstream, Feathertail, and Stormfur.")
Hawkwing's Journey- Several SkyClan cats from previous books are missing without any mention of whether they've left or died: Egg, Petalnose, Shrewtooth, Rockshade, and Creekfeather.
A Vision of Shadows
The Apprentice's Quest- Beetlewhisker of RiverClan appears in the Allegiances, despite having been killed in
The Last Hope.
Thunder and Shadow- Beetlewhisker of RiverClan appears in the Allegiances, despite having been killed in The Last Hope.
Pg. 18 Sleekpaw glowered at the ShadowClan deputy, but she took the parcel and, lifting her tail, marched on through the woods. (this is in response to Tawnypelt scolding her, and Tawnypelt is not the deputy)
Pg. 197 Twigkit blinked at her. (She has already received her apprentice name)
Pg. 197 Twigkit's eyes widened. (She has already received her apprentice name)
Pg. 199 Had Violetkit forgotten they were littermates? (She has already announced her new name and been referred to as such in the narration)
Shattered Sky- Beetlewhisker of RiverClan appears in the Allegiances and in the book itself, despite having been killed in
The Last Hope.
- Two RiverClan warriors are named "Foxface" and "Shadenose" in the Allegiances. In Thunder and Shadow when they were announced as warriors, and in the text of this book, their names are actually Foxnose and Shadepelt.
Darkest NightPg. 69 "We have
three borders to patrol now," she complained. "ShadowClan,
RiverClan,
and SkyClan." (supposed to be WindClan - ThunderClan does not share a border with RiverClan)
Tigerheart's Shadow- When Tigerheart receives his nine lives, he loses one immediately due to dying on the way to share tongues with them. Rowanclaw claims that this is the first time this has happened, but it's not: it also happened to the very first leader to receive her nine lives, Windstar (though she only was given lives from 8 cats, not nine and then immediately losing one.) It's possible that either he wasn't aware, or that the two scenarios are different (since Tigerheart was technically already dead when brought to the Moonstone while Wind Runner was still alive but dying.)
Field Guides
Secrets of the ClansPg. 65 Killed by Blood, the leader of BloodClan.
Pg. 105 Firestar ever met Bluestar's first deputy, but he worked hard to...
Pg. 120 "She died saving all of us from Sharpclaw."
Pg. 18 In an old rabbit burrow below the twising roots, Brambleclaw, Mistyfoot, Crowfeather, Tawnypelt, and Squirrelpaw sheltered on their first trip around the lake, scouting for new Clan territories and camps. (She was already a warrior by this point)
- Leopardfur is the only cat listed as Crookedstar's deputy. Oakheart should be there too.
Note: Because Secrets of the Clans came out before many things in the series were well-established, several things in the book have become inaccurate, and Vicky says to trust the other books over Secrets when there's a discrepancy.
Examples of this include:
- Secrets of the Clans says multiple times that the founding four leaders created the rules in the warrior code. However, Code of the Clans reveals that other cats added the rules throughout the years.
- It says that Crookedstar mentored Graypool. However, in Crookedstar's Promise, they were apprentices at the same time; Graypool's mentor was Hailstar.
- Timberfur is missing from the list of Crookedstar's deputies because Bluestar's Prophecy came out later than this book.
- Secrets of the Clans claims that leaders had the names ThunderSTAR, WindSTAR, ShadowSTAR, and RiverSTAR. However, in both Long Shadows and Code of the Clans, they don't have "star" added, and Battles of the Clans establishes that leaders didn't get the "star" name for a while (there was a WindClan leader named Graywing the Wise).
- It says that Raggedstar mentored Brokentail. In Yellowfang's Secret, Nightpelt/star is his mentor.
- Nightstar is listed as Dawncloud's mentor. In Yellowfang's Secret, she wasn't born until after he had already retired, and Blackfoot mentors her instead.
Cats of the ClansPg. 36 "Blackstar was Nightstar's deputy, then Tigerstar's..." (Cinderfur was Nightstar's deputy, not Blackstar. Blackstar was, however, Brokenstar's deputy first.)
Pg. 42 "Cinderpelt was punished for raiding ThunderClan's store of herbs to cure two ShadowClan apprentices." (They're warriors, not apprentices, and ThunderClan never found out, so she was not punished.)
Pg. 68 "They were imprisoned in an old fox den with Feathertail's mentor, Stonefur, and were forced to watch..." (Stonefur was Stormfur's mentor)
Pg. 80 "When she learned her brother was the leader of a Clan of forest cats, she gave him her firstborn kit, Cloudtail, believing..." (She didn't make up her mind because Firestar was a Clan leader; in fact, he wasn't even deputy at that point.)
Pg. 88 "Leafdapple was a kittypet with the SkyClan talent..." (she was a rogue)
- Stoneteller has blue eyes in his picture, even though they're amber.
- Silverstream has blue eyes in her picture, when she's meant to have green.
- Graystripe has green eyes in the picture, when he has amber.
- Crowfeather has amber eyes in his picture, when he's supposed to have blue.
Code of the Clans- Birchstar is a tom in the first story, but a she-cat in the second one.
Pg. 42 Darkstripe was peering at Longstripe as if he could read his thoughts.
Pg. 109 "That's right, Graystripe: What do you want? is a good way to start." (This story takes place when they are apprentices)
- Squirrelflight never had her warrior vigil because they had no proper camp (that was before they split up at the lake). However, she tells all about her vigil in the story "Squirrelflight's Words of Wisdom". Not only did Squirrelflight not have a vigil, but she says that it was back in the old forest. She became a warrior in the new territories - it was after their journey.
- There is a cat called Crowclaw in the story where the ShadowClan cats save Tigerpaw. In later books the cat who always appears with Archeye and Hollyflower is named Crowtail instead; Crowclaw does not appear in any other books, so she was likely renamed.
Battles of the Clans- The pictures for The Lost Kits and A Time for Mercy are mixed up.
Pg. 1 "Hallo, Ashfoot, who's this?" (They always spell it "hello").
- Rushpaw of RiverClan is female in the Rushpaw Splash story, but is actually male in the main books.
- On page 110, Brokenstar is described as black. He should be a dark brown tabby.
- In the story where Sparrowpaw talks about the Skydrop move, he mentions a cat called Whitewhisker a few times. If it takes place when he was an apprentice, that means it has to be during the time frame of Firestar's Quest. There was no Whitewhisker in Firestar's Quest, and there isn't one in SkyClan's Destiny, either.
- In the story A Time for Mercy, Whitetail and Antpelt are both called ShadowClan cats, when they really are in WindClan. They should have been on the same side as the RiverClan patrol, not fighting against them.
Pg. 109 "ThunderClan! Enemies! Attack!" yowled Tigerclaw, and to my astonishment, he sprang at the cat who had run closest to him through the forest and wrestled him to the ground. (In Forest of Secrets, it was Fireheart who had said that, as he ran down into the ravine. Tigerclaw, had yowled "To me, ThunderClan!" instead.)
Pg. 130 Rainwhisker, Sootfur, and Cinderpelt all died in the [badger] attack. (Rainwhisker was killed by a falling branch sometime between Sunset and The Sight.)
- On pg. 152, Kestrelwing is described as gray. He was a dark brown tabby tom in Firestar's Quest.
- Tawnypelt claims that the Eclipse battle lasted for three days. It's possible that she was exaggerating to show off to the "kittypets".
The Ultimate Guide- On pg. 17 and 132 (Graystripe and Feathertail's pages) it says that Graystripe brought his kits to RiverClan after ThunderClan failed to treat the kits with kindness. This did not happen in Forest of Secrets; Graystripe just didn't want there to be bloodshed over the kits and agreed that they belonged with their mother's Clan, and he joined them because they were all that he had left of Silverstream, and besides, he knew that a lot of ThunderClan cats didn't trust him anymore.
- Page 27 says that Leafpool "watched with her own eyes as Brambleclaw killed his half brother, Hawkfrost, to save Firestar." She did not watch; she arrived afterward, and initially thought that Brambleclaw had killed Firestar until Firestar stirred and told her what had happened.
- Page 33 claims that Ashfur was a good mentor to Lionblaze. This is debatable, because they did not get along at all - they even fought each other once - and he also possibly taught Lionblaze how to do things the wrong way (at least, Lionblaze accused him of it.)
- On page 37, it says that Hollyleaf did not mean to kill Ashfur, that she struck at him, and he slipped, which caused her to strike his throat. This is not the case: on page 313 of Sunrise, Jayfeather sees into her memories. She pounced on Ashfur and bit his throat, and he fought back and clawed at her, but she held on until he went limp. She says afterward that his body was supposed to be swept into the lake and never seen again, but now that they've found him she can't stay in the Clan - whereas the Ultimate Guide says that it was because she felt guilty for having accidentally killed another cat.
- On page 69 it claims that Brokenstar was "unflinchingly loyal to his Clanmates and the warrior code". This is contradicted by the last half of the sentence - which mentions how he killed his own father to become leader - and by his own actions, such as getting into a fight at a Gathering.
- Some of the pages claim that Brokenstar was still leader of ShadowClan, but then tried to take over ThunderClan and was captured by ThunderClan cats at that point, and that Nightpelt became leader after his capture. Brokenstar actually was driven out of ShadowClan and lived as a rogue for moons before he tried attacking ThunderClan with other rogues. The pages with the incorrect information are Runningnose's (pg. 66), Brokenstar's (pg. 69) and Nightstar's (pg. 71).
- On page 73, it says that when Nightstar died, "[Tigerclaw] was the natural successor instead of the elderly deputy, Cinderfur." In Tigerclaw's Fury, Cinderfur had died just before Tigerclaw was welcomed to the ShadowClan camp, and Nightstar was still alive at that point.
- On page 76, it says that Blackstar willingly allowed Tawnypelt to go on the journey to find Midnight. He actually did not know she had left; on page 263 of Midnight, he says that he'd assumed that her disappearance meant that she'd gone back to ThunderClan to be with her brother.
Pg. 96 He recognized the former ShadowClan elders: Cinderfur, Tallpoppy, Darkflower, and Dawncloud. (While it is possible that Dawncloud was in StarClan at the time Tigerstar received his nine lives - she was in the Allegiances list of Rising Storm but not A Dangerous Path - Darkflower and Tallpoppy are not. Tigerstar was revealed to be leader at the end of Rising Storm, and they are still alive in the Allegiances of A Dangerous Path: Tallpoppy, in fact, survives until the end of Omen of the Stars.)
Pg. 108 Feathertail, the WindClan cat, saw past his shyness and sharp tongue to the brave, thoughtful, loyal warrior beneath, and found something to love.
- Pg. 115 claims that when the Clans first came to the lake, RiverClan first settled on the island, and moved to the land where the streams meet after the tree fell on Mudclaw and the island was claimed as a Gathering place. This is incorrect; Mistyfoot identified the stream area as ideal for the camp right away, and even though Hawkfrost explored the island and said that it would be perfect for the Clan, on page 141 of Starlight, Leopardstar decided that RiverClan would make camp by the streams because it would be easier for the kits and elders to access.
Pg. 118 When Shellheart retired from Clan deputy, the broken jaws of a pike on the fresh-kill pile predicted that Crookedjaw should take his place, despite being so young. Mapleshade took the credit for the fish, and that night.... (It was a squirrel in Crookedstar's Promise, not a pike.)
- It claims on pages 130 and 132 that when Tigerstar had control of TigerClan and was persecuting half-Clan cats, that Mistyfoot fled to ThunderClan and that Stonefur was captured and killed (this implies that it was either while he was fleeing, or afterward). It says that Featherpaw and Stormpaw were imprisoned with Stonefur in a hole, and then when they were rescued by Firestar, Graystripe, and Ravenpaw, that they joined their Clanmate Mistyfoot in ThunderClan. In The Darkest Hour, Mistyfoot had been imprisoned along with them, and she fled along with them as well.
Pg. 135 So he tore the wing off a moth and faked a sign from StarClan to convince Mudfur that Mothpaw was the right choice for his apprentice. (She was a warrior with the name Mothwing - thus the sign of the moth's wing - before becoming a medicine cat apprentice.)
- Hawkfrost's page, on pg. 136, ends by saying that he killed Hollyleaf and was "pursued back to the shadows by a fearsome patrol of living warriors". This is incorrect because at that scene he just crept away into the bushes on his own, without pursuers, while Ivypool and the others focused on Hollyleaf. It also implies that this is when he was last seen because most pages mention a cat's death, but his spirit was killed by Brambleclaw later on.
- On page 153, it claims that when Stoneteller thought that Stormfur was the promised cat to beat Sharptooth, Sharptooth attacked, and Stormfur's battle tactics failed to beat the mountain lion, so Stoneteller banished the Clan cats and Brook from the cave. After that was when they returned with the exiled cave-guards and beat Sharptooth. This mixes up a few events: in Moonrise, Stormfur was kept prisoner and the Tribe made the other Clan cats leave. Sharptooth attacked, and Stormfur escaped with the Clan cats (who had come back for him) while the Tribe was too shocked to do anything. Brook remained behind - the Clan cats met the exiled cave-guards afterward and Talon asked about Brook. The part about Stormfur's battle tactics failing, and Stormfur and Brook being banished, actually happened later, when Stripes and his rogues were causing trouble for the Tribe, as revealed in Outcast.
- Brook has amber eyes in her picture, when she is supposed to have gray.
Novellas
Mistystar's Omen- During Chapter 2, Pouncetail remembers living in the old forest and claims he misses Stonefur. Pouncetail first appeared as an apprentice in The Sight, so he would be too young for that.
- During Chapter 2, it says: "You're allowed to rest as much as you want after journeying to the beavers' dam," she reminded Icewing. Icewing did not travel to the beavers' dam; Rippletail and Petalfur did.
Cloudstar's Journey- Nightfur's name is misspelled as "Nightfar" in the Allegiances.
- In Code of the Clans, the leader that gave territory to ThunderClan was named Darkstar. In this book, he's consistently called Duskstar.
- In the Kindle edition, there are many instances of words having a hyphen in the middle of them where they're not supposed to. (i.e. Thunder-Clan, Cloud-star, etc.)
Goosefeather's Curse- Hawkpaw is the WindClan medicine cat apprentice. In Bluestar's Prophecy, Hawkheart was described as being a warrior first before becoming a medicine cat (the "fiercest warrior in WindClan", in fact.)
- In Into the Wild, One-eye is the oldest cat in ThunderClan, and Speckletail isn't even retired. Goosefeather's Curse makes them littermates and the same age.
- In Bluestar's Prophecy, Dappletail, Thrushpelt, and Tawnyspots were very different ages: Dappletail was an apprentice at the start of the book, Thrushpelt was the newest warrior, and Tawnyspots was an established warrior. Goosefeather's Curse makes them littermates and the same age.
- Robinwing, Fuzzypelt, Sparrowpelt, Stonepelt, and Weedwhisker are either forgotten in this book or not born yet, despite Dappletail and Thrushpelt - some of the youngest cats in ThunderClan in Bluestar's Prophecy - have been born. Especially notable for Weedwhisker, who is an elder in Bluestar's Prophecy, and Robinwing and Fuzzypelt, who appear as apprentices alongside Moonflower in Tallstar's Revenge yet do not appear in Goosefeather's Curse even by the time she's a warrior.
Ravenpaw's Farewell- On page 285, Ravenpaw sees Echosong and thinks that she's Silverstream. Unlike Firestar, Ravenpaw never met Silverstream, since Graystripe's romance with her began after Ravenpaw left ThunderClan and she died before Ravenpaw ever visited the forest again, so it's odd that he'd think about a cat he never met as if she had some significance in his life.
Spottedleaf's Heart- Halftail already has his elder name, despite the fact that in Bluestar's Prophecy he didn't get the name until the large timeskip at the very end of the story.
- Stonepelt is missing from the Allegiances.
- On pg. 18, it is mentioned that Willowpaw is apprenticed to Poppydawn. In Bluestar's Prophecy, Poppydawn had become an elder on page 387, and in a scene taking place roughly four seasons later on page 403 it is mentioned that Spottedpaw, Redpaw and Willowpaw have become apprentices. Pg. 423 of Bluestar's Prophecy says that Redpaw and Willowpaw's mentors are Sparrowpelt and Adderfang.
- "Treecutplace" is not capitalized in this book as it has been in previous books.
- Pg. 58 describes a RiverClan tabby as a she-cat ("judging by her glossy pelt"). On page 60-61, Thistleclaw fights the RiverClan tabby, who is now a tom.
Pinestar's Choice- Dappletail appears as a warrior when Pinestar is an apprentice. In other books such as
Bluestar's Prophecy, she was an apprentice when Pinestar was leader and Bluestar was born.
Thunderstar's Echo- Willow Tail is listed as a WindClan hunter. In
Moth Flight's Vision, she had died before Windstar became leader, and had given her one of her nine lives.
- In the Allegiances, adult cats are listed as "Hunters". In the actual text, they are referred to as warriors, and not hunters.
- Pg. 274-275 There, StarClan
had healed her [Windstar] and given her nine lives, so that she could lead and protect her Clan. (StarClan was unable to save her existing life as she was dying, so she was only given 8 lives instead of 9.)
Official Short Stories
Warriors: Ultimate Leader: The Clans Decide (US Presidential election 2008 story)Pg. 5 "How can they be angry with us for trying to find a way to survive this
leafbare?" (supposed to have a hyphen)
Pg. 12 [Onestar] blinked his calm
blue eyes, then picked up his stone and carried it over to Firestar's pile. (Onestar actually has amber eyes, as can be seen on Outcast pg. 139)
After Sunset: The Right Choice? (from the official app)- Brambleclaw says,
"I had to kill my own brother. My first day as Clan deputy, and I had to take another cat's life. What kind of beginning is that?" He did not kill Hawkfrost on his first day as deputy. His first day as deputy was spent wishing he could announce his good news to someone, and he even considers telling his prey that it was about to be eaten by the Clan deputy. That night he tells Hawkfrost and Tigerstar about it.
The Elders' Concern (from the official app)- The story takes place the night after Lionheart's death, and it's about Fireheart being named deputy. Fireheart did not directly succeed Lionheart; Tigerclaw did. Besides, he would have been an apprentice when Lionheart died (as would Sandstorm, who was also mentioned with her warrior name when she should have been an apprentice).
- They claim that Tigerclaw should have been deputy because he's a real warrior. Either the author was thinking that Fireheart became deputy while Tigerclaw was still a warrior, or else the elders forgot or ignored the fact that Tigerclaw tried to murder Bluestar.
- "And he's hardly been here for half a moon," Dappletail added. - At the time the story takes place, Firepaw had been in the Clan for at least two or three moons. It's possible she was exaggerating.
- "?doesn't know what she's doing!" Smallear burst out. (random questionmark there)
